In 1860, the Brooklyn Excelsiors wore the ancestor of the modern, rounded-top baseball cap, and by 1900, the "Brooklyn style" cap became popular. Based on an 8 Piece construction with a button top, the Brooklyn was different to the English Bakerboy style as it was narrower and slightly better fitting with a curved peak. Also known as the Newsboy Cap.
Baker Boy, Apple Cap, Eight Panel, Jay Gatsby (after The Great Gatsby), and similarly know as a Redford Cap, Fisherman's Cap and Lundberg Stetson, and can also be known as a Brooklyn, which is made in the same basic style, with some variation.
The Brooklyn has been very popular due to movies like The Godfather, Gangs of New York and popular figures like David Beckham and Brad Pitt wearing them.
The best Brooklyn you will find is produced by Stetson’s European branch. They come in winter wools and herringbone cloth and for summer Linen and Raw Silk as well as Wool/Linen mix caps. The most popular Stetson Cap is the Burney cap, made in a deep Brooklyn style, from an aged suede leather and cost £60.
Laird London also produce a soft leather Brooklyn in black or dark brown, as well as an Imper water repellent summer cloth.
